      A Human-Machine Interface (HMI) is a user interface or dashboard that communicate with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

      A programmable logic controller (PLC) is an electronic device used in many industries to monitor and control construction systems and production.

      PLC:

      1. PLC work only in auto mode (Since program is predefined). If there is error during the operation, we cannot proceed till it rectifies or corrected.
      2. The set point cannot be altered in PLC. (If needs to be altered then the licensed program has to be downloaded)
      3. There is no display unit in PLC.
      4. In PLC we cannot monitor what is happening during the execution.
      5. It is programmable logical circuit.

      HMI:

      1. HMI work in both auto and manual mode. If there is any error during operations, it can be changed to manual mode and the further operations shall be continued.
      2. In HMI, able to change the set point.
      3. There will be the display unit in HMI with function buttons.
      4. Possible to monitor the current happenings.
      5. HMI is generally a touch screen to the PLC
